But it also made truly positioned, specific, human-led expertise more valuable — because now the market is flooded with generic output, and clients who care about results are actively looking for someone they can trust. The freelancers struggling right now were already competing on price and deliverables rather than on the transformation they create.

 The Difference Between a Commodity and a Position

 'I do social media management' is a commodity. Anyone with a Canva account and a scheduler can say that. 'I help wellness coaches turn their expertise into content that fills their discovery call calendar' is a position. One is replaceable. The other is sought out. The difference isn't skill level — it's specificity.

How to Identify Your Real Position

Ask yourself three questions. Who is the one type of person I do my best work for? What specific outcome do they get from working with me that they couldn't easily get elsewhere? What do I know or do that feels obvious to me but isn't obvious to them? The intersection of those three answers is where your real positioning lives.

The One Thing to Do This Week

 Rewrite your bio, pitch, or services page. Not what you offer — who you're for and what specifically changes for them when they work with you. That one shift changes who responds to you, how they value you, and whether price is even part of the conversation.
