You're watching funnel tutorials.
17 automations. 12 email sequences. Tripwire offers. Upsells. Downsells. Order bumps.
Your head is spinning.
You think: "I can't do this. This is too complicated."
Here's the truth: You don't need all that.
You need four steps. That's it.
The 4-Step Funnel That Actually Works
Step 1: Free Content (Social Media) → Hook Them
This is where you build awareness.
You're not selling. You're serving.
Educational posts. Stories. Value.
Goal: Get them to know, like, and trust you.
What this looks like:
Carousels teaching frameworks.
Single posts sharing insights.
Stories showing behind-the-scenes.
The rule: 80% value, 20% selling.
Give, give, give. Then ask.
Step 2: Lead Magnet (Free Resource) → Capture Email
They love your content. Now what?
Capture their email.
What's a lead magnet?
A free resource in exchange for their email address.
Examples:
Free guide: "The 10-Minute Marriage Check-In Template"
Free checklist: "30-Day Content Calendar"
Free mini-course: "5 Days to Better Conflict Resolution"
The key: Make it valuable. Solve one specific problem.
Where to offer it:
In your posts: "DM me 'GUIDE' for the free template."
In your bio: Link to landing page with lead magnet.
In your Stories: Regular reminders about the free resource.
Step 3: Email Nurture (Weekly Value) → Build Trust
Now they're on your email list.
Don't immediately sell.
Nurture first.
Send weekly emails with:
More value
Stories
Insights
Behind-the-scenes
Goal: Build trust over time.
They need to know you deliver before they buy from you.
How long to nurture?
Minimum 4 weeks before making your first offer.
But keep nurturing forever. Even after they buy.
Email structure:
Week 1: Welcome email + deliver lead magnet
Week 2: Share a story + lesson learned
Week 3: Teach a framework
Week 4: Address a common objection
Week 5+: Mix of value + occasional offers
Step 4: Make Offer (Product/Service) → Convert
Now you've earned the right to sell.
Make a clear offer.
What to offer:
Community membership
Course
Coaching
Service
Product
How to offer it:
Email: "Here's what I've built to help you with [problem]."
Describe exactly what they get and why it matters.
One clear call to action: "Join here: [link]"
How often to make offers?
In emails: Once per month minimum.
On social: Weekly.
The conversion formula:
Value + Trust + Clear Offer = Sales
Skip any step, conversions drop.
Why This Simple Funnel Works?
It's not overwhelming.
Four steps. You can implement this today.
It focuses on relationships, not hacks.
You're building trust over time. Not tricking people into buying.
It's sustainable.
You can do this for years without burning out.
It actually converts.
Simple funnels convert better than complicated ones.
Confused people don't buy. Clear people do.
The Mistakes That Kill Simple Funnels
Mistake 1: Skipping the lead magnet.
Going straight from social media to paid offer.
Problem: You don't own the relationship. Instagram does.
Build your email list. It's yours forever.
Mistake 2: Selling too soon.
First email after they opt-in: "BUY MY THING!"
Problem: They don't trust you yet.
Nurture first. Sell second.
Mistake 3: Vague offers.
"Link in bio for something cool!"
Problem: They don't know what you're selling or why it matters.
Be specific. "Join Marriage Warriors: Weekly frameworks + live Q&As + community. $47/month. [link]"
Mistake 4: No clear CTA.
You talk about your offer but never tell them how to buy.
Problem: Confused people don't convert.
One offer = One clear link = One specific action.
Mistake 5: Overcomplicating it.
"I need a tripwire, then an upsell, then a downsell, then..."
Problem: You never launch because you're building forever.
Start simple. Add complexity later IF needed.
What This Looks Like for Us
Our funnel:
Step 1: Free content on Instagram.
Marriage + marketing carousels. Stories. Value daily.
Step 2: Lead magnet.
"DM us 'WARRIOR' for the free marriage check-in template."
They DM. We send the template + capture their email.
Step 3: Weekly email.
Every Sunday. Story + value + occasional offer.
Step 4: Offer.
Marriage Warrior community (Skool).
Digital marketing course (Secret Sauce).
That's it. Four steps.
We don't have 47 automations. We have a simple system we execute consistently.

Keep it simple. 1-5 pages max.
Tuesday: Set up email capture.
Use ConvertKit, MailerLite, or similar.
Create a landing page for your lead magnet.
Wednesday: Drive traffic to lead magnet.
Post about it on social media.
"DM me [WORD] for the free [resource]."
Update your bio with the link.
Thursday: Write your first 4 emails.
Welcome email (deliver the lead magnet).
Email 2 (share a story).
Email 3 (teach something).
Email 4 (address an objection).
Friday: Schedule them.
Set them to send weekly.
Saturday-Sunday: Create your offer.
What are you selling?
Who is it for?
What problem does it solve?
What do they get?
How much does it cost?
Write it clearly.
The Advanced Version (Once You Master the Basics)
After you've run this simple funnel for 3-6 months, you can add:
Segmentation: Different lead magnets for different audiences.
Automation: More sophisticated email sequences.
Multiple offers: Low-ticket, mid-ticket, high-ticket.
Retargeting ads: Paid traffic to your lead magnet.
But don't start there. Start simple.
When Simple Funnels Don't Work
If you have no audience.
You need people to enter the funnel.
Build your social media presence first.
If your lead magnet doesn't solve a real problem.
Test it. If nobody's downloading it, it's not valuable enough.
Ask your audience: "What's your biggest struggle with [topic]?"
Build a lead magnet solving THAT.
If your emails are boring.
Value doesn't mean boring.
Tell stories. Be human. Make them look forward to your emails.
If your offer isn't clear.
Go back to messaging basics.
Who is this for? What problem does it solve? What do they get?
The Bottom Line
You're one funnel away from consistent income.
But you don't need a complicated one.
The 4-step funnel:
Free content (social media) → Hook them
Lead magnet (free resource) → Capture email
Email nurture (weekly value) → Build trust
Make offer (product/service) → Convert
That's it.
Stop overcomplicating. Start implementing.
